Poems If we view "wild songs" and poetry as fundamentally different means of expression, then the disagreement between Douglass and Shelley would not even come close to being resolved. There would be two sides arguing forever about which form, song or poetry, would be the best agent for human expression. Their argument could only be resolved if we view poetry and song as the same element. The main difference between poetry and song is that poetry is often expressed by your sight; the images are transcribe in your brain from what you read. You use your ears to listen to music and you imagine from what you hear. Regardless of which method, you still experience the emotion and message of each piece.
